Healthy Nutrition
Food is the medicine that keeps us healthy.
The American College of Lifestyle Medicine has identified six pillars of good health, a whole food diet, physical activity, stress management, avoiding risky behaviors and substances, restorative sleep, and social connection.
Each is important, but among the most important is nutrition. A healthy range of nutritious food not only powers us through our day, and can prevent and treat many chronic conditions such as prediabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
The American College of Lifestyle medicine recommends a 75/25 rule for daily meals. 75% of your plate should be filled with fruits; vegetables; cooked whole grains; and beans, peas, or legumes. The remaining 25% can be lean or plant-based proteins.
