Lifestyle Medicine

Healthy habits that prevent and treat chronic conditions.

Developing a healthy routine

Our daily routine has a profound impact on our long-term health. What we eat, how we sleep, and how active we are may prevent and treat conditions like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular heart disease. This approach to healthcare is called lifestyle medicine and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine has identified six pillars of healthy living:

  • Whole food diet
  • Physical activity
  • Stress management
  • Avoiding risky substances
  • Restorative sleep
  • Social connection

Kinwell’s advanced primary care incorporates aspects of lifestyle medicine. Our clinicians may ask about your diet, daily activity, and how well you sleep. They may recommend a consultation with a behavioral health clinician who can help treat eating disorders, insomnia, and substance misuse.

Your clinician may also recommend Kinwell’s Lifestyle Medicine: Intro to Nutrition group program. This series of weekly appointments offers patients tactics to change their daily habits and improve their well-being.
